Are you interested in football and taking your skills to the next level, leading to a career in either professional football or sport? Then this may be the right course for you.
You will work in combination with D6 Football Academy to complete a Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport, with the opportunity to train under renowned coaches such as Stephen Sama. Stephen is an ex-professional player who has played across the world in three different countries and now brings his wealth of experience to D6 Football Academy students. Receiving a football scholarship himself at Borussia Dortmund, Stephen knows the academy environment better than anyone and creates this same standard at D6.
In his coaching career, Stephen has worked closely with Liverpool Football Club and D6 Football Academy United to progress young players into academy football. Play football full-time, working with D6’s UEFA-qualified and academy coaches while studying for a sport qualification up to Level 3 (equivalent to 3 A-levels).
This is intended as an Applied General qualification, equivalent in size to three A Levels. It is a two-year, full-time course that meets entry requirements in its own right for learners who want to progress to higher education courses in sport before entering employment.
Learners will study Anatomy and Physiology (exploring how the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular and respiratory systems function and the fundamentals of the energy systems), Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being, Practical Sports Performance (studying the skills, techniques, tactics and rules of selected sports through active participation in individual/team sports), Sports Leadership, Coaching for Performance, Development and Provision in Sport, Investigating Business with Sport, and much more.
In addition, players will train 4 times a week, including football, strength & conditioning, and analysis sessions. As well as this, players will compete in weekly matches at the highest levels of college football. Players have the opportunity to play showcase games vs professional clubs across the UK and attend scout-attended sessions and matches.
Three main categories:
There are also specific requirements in some units for assessment of these skills where relevant, for example, where learners are required to undertake real or simulated activities.
A mixture of internal and external assessment is used in the sports award. For example within the assessment for Unit 7: Practical Sports Performance learners complete tasks to demonstrate skills, techniques, tactics and rules of selected sports through active participation in individual/team sports. They will have an opportunity to reflect on individual ability. The styles of external assessment used for qualifications in the Sport suite are examinations – all learners take the same assessment at the same time, normally with a written outcome and set tasks – learners take the assessment during a defined window and demonstrate understanding through completion of a vocational task. Internal assessments include student being given opportunities to: write up the findings of their own research, use case studies to explore complex or unfamiliar situations, carry out projects for which they have choice over the direction and outcomes, demonstrate practical and technical skills.
The qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers as contributing to meeting admission requirements for many courses, if taken alongside other qualifications as part of a two-year programme of study. It combines well with a large number of subjects and supports entry to higher education courses in a wide range of disciplines (depending on the subjects taken alongside it).
