Why study this course?

Course Overview

We offer a unique opportunity to start your career in Games Design whilst completing this level 3 qualification. This work related qualification is ideal for those interested in developing computer games and looking to join the industry of one of the fastest growing forms of entertainment. It will provide you with practical knowledge and experience, obtained by developing your skills using the latest industry standard software and hardware such as Blender & Unity. Throughout the course, you will learn about all aspects of the games industry, and eventually will be able to specialise in the area you most enjoy.

What will I study?

Get hands on experience with industry standard software packages including Adobe CC, Blender and Unreal Engine. Increase knowledge of the current trends, technologies and production tools used in the games industry. Complete various games-based projects following industry pipelines e.g. Games Demos, Art Pieces and 3D Assets. Develop an understanding of games theory and reasoning behind design choices. Gain an understanding of working to a client brief through project-based assessment.

How is this course assessed?

The course is assessed through coursework which takes the form of assignments and hands on production. The course is taught in two blocks, one to teach you the skills required, and the other where you can create your own portfolio of work.

What can I study with this course?

Many students go on to further study at highly prestigious universities such as Manchester Metropolitan University. Throughout the course you will develop skills and knowledge of all aspects to support you to make an informed choice of how you wish to specialise. Students go onto a range of further studies such as Games Development, Animation, Concept Design, Cyber Security and E-Sports qualifications.

Specific entry requirements for this course

A-Level entry requirements

At least four 5s at GCSE.
Your English and maths GCSEs must be at least grade 4.

BTEC entry requirements

At least five 4s at GCSE. A grade 4 in math, English language, or literature, and a grade 3 in the other subjects is required.
